Both military and commercial flights working to evacuate Afghans and Americans.
As of Tuesday morning, thousands of American citizens are reportedly still trapped in Afghanistan and awaiting evacuation. Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said on Tuesday, “We think there are certainly thousands of Americans. We don’t have an exact count. I would say, at best, somewhere between five and 10,000.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated that the White House sees a similar number, “There are individuals who would self-identify as U.S. citizens. That number is about 11,000 nationwide.”
When speaking about the evacuation effort, military officials stated that they expect to be able to evacuate 9,000 people per day. Army Major General Hank Taylor said, “We are focused on the current mission: to facilitate the safe evacuation of American citizens, SIVs, and Afghans at risk – to quickly and safely evacuate these personnel from Afghanistan.”
Currently, around 3,000 U.S. military personnel are holding the Kabul International Airport in order to facilitate the evacuation.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God’s hand of protection on all Americans still awaiting evacuation.
- For God to give strength to the military men and women working to provide military cover for the evacuation.
- For the president and his administration as American citizens are evacuated from Afghanistan.
